Excellent post. A basic requirement of democracy is that citizens pay attention. You’ve provided a great, accessible way for people to do just that. This post should be printed out in color and posted widely. Thank you!

Thank you for writing this with such clarity and conviction. As a queer, neurodivergent mom raising a gender-expansive preteen, this terrifies me—and enrages me. The SAVE Act isn’t about safety. It’s about erasure. And it puts every one of us on the margins at greater risk.

Grateful for your voice and your courage. Subscribed, and sharing this widely.

Such a great explanation for more visual people. I’ve read about it multiple times and this is the first time it made sense. Also maybe because I just believe what I was reading the first couple of times. “They’re taking away the vote from women??? What??” Yes.

At least buying votes and making people inebriated enough not to know who they vote for are still forbidden (for now).

Yes. The tactics I described were how “Boss” William Tweed and Tammany Hall in New York kept their power for so long. I think MAGA wants to emulate them.

There used to be a saying, "No taxation without representation".

While I am married, I didn't change my name. However, I am an expat. I still file federal taxes as legally required. I'm registered as an overseas voter in the US district I last lived and voted in. I vote in those elections I am legally allowed to. If my name is purged, there's no way I'm returning to the US anytime soon (due to cost, safety and political concerns). The SAVE Act targets expats like me.

The cowards who want this are the same ones who know they will never win without cheating. This is only another form of cheating!

They don't want to serve, they want to rule over us.

The Save act will work stronger and farther than poll tax at preventing women, seniors and handicapped from voting.

We know very well that this ‘act’ is directed at females who are registered voters and citizens of the United States, who have changed their last names due to the traditional patriarchal custom of taking on your husband’s last name upon marriage, thereby basically wiping out our history. We know who is to blame in this crooked card game and know how this action will lead to other strangling ‘acts’ of our rights.

You know, if this had been enacted when millions of immigrants came to America from the eastern hemisphere, there would be hardly anyone except WASPS who could provide this documentation. Remember all the name changes that were legally forced upon the immigrants because the authorities couldn’t spell or pronounce their names? Think about that. Whole generations of people being basically ‘remade in an image’ and unable to prove who they were.

Enough is enough. I have had it with Orange Idiot and the whole gang of Idiots, and their constituents who are too stupid to think past their own wants.

Twenty-two states controlled by Republicans deny former felons the right to vote permanently, which violates the United States Constitution. The party that claims to uphold law and order breaks the law once again.

I would strongly suggest women keep their birth name when they marry. Problem solved, and an upraised middle finger to the patriarchy, who failed to consider the possibility this would be the result of their overreach.

I laughed my ass off when demand for vasectomies and tubal ligations soared after Roe was overturned. Didn’t think about that, Mr. “We need more babies!” did you?
