Have you heard about these “forever” chemicals that are literally everywhere and potentially killing off our species? No? Well then here’s a fun read for your Wednesday morning! I originally wrote this comic for The Nib’s Future issue, but wanted to share it here since it isn’t online anywhere.
I also wanted to add the framing that the prevalence of endocrine-disrupting hormones in our environment is very much a reproductive justice issue! As infertility rates continue to rise and more and more people require assistive reproductive technology, human reproduction may soon be reserved for those who can afford medical intervention.
True reproductive freedom means everyone has access to the medical care necessary to create the family they desire. Big changes are needed if we’re going to solve this crisis before it’s too late.
On the bright side, it's not the end of the world (just humanity).
I heard of a biologist, a woman, who decades ago warned that plastics, particularly in children's toys, were causing hormone problems. (Kids put plastic toys right into their mouths, you know.) I've forgotten her name, and so has the internet. The plastics industry stifled her, I recall.
