Hi friends!
I’m teaching a new, 8-week online class on building narrative in comics. You can learn more here if you’re interested!
I’ve decided to periodically share some comics “from the archives” that still feel important to me! This one on the importance of women’s anger originally appeared in The Audacity in 2021. This was one of those pieces where, once I got going, I found out I had A LOT to say! Maybe you can relate?
Powerful and important. Anger signifies when a boundary has been crossed. Those prohibited from expressing anger will have their boundaries violated again and again while being told it’s their fault. For not setting better boundaries. Despite having the mechanism for recognizing when a boundary has been violated conditioned out of them. To benefit those who are allowed to feel anger and otherwise hold more power. Taking anger away from large portions of the population is control and domination. That is its purpose. Connected to why a small subset of the population reigns supreme. The ones allowed to express anger. As we witnessed watching Brett Kavanaugh be confirmed to the Supreme Court. His face and Lindsay Graham’s both showed narcissistic rage. And somehow much of half country celebrates and worships them. We are all dying of narcissism. Because narcissists don’t let anyone else feel anger. Or really any emotion that takes away from theirs. Thank you for a great post.
Should the 2nd to last pic read: and punish women who do? Rather than women who don’t?
