Itβs a brilliant idea. How hard would it be to have a little QR code on the last pageβ¦ βloved this book? The author receives between $1 - $4 for each purchaseβ¦ feel free to supplement that here.β Especially in that perfect moment when you finish a book you LOVEDβ¦the gratitude!
That's so nice! Thank you! I don't know exact numbers, but the great thing about Bookshop is that they use their profits to support independent bookstores, so that feels like a win in my book, even if it cuts into my royalty!
This is such a good explainer! Good to know. I loved your interview w Allison on Matriarchy Report this week and the idea of βfeminism as the defaultβ :)
I am so glad you shared this! I stopped shopping at Amazon this year but now I have even more reason to never to it. Thank you so much! Buying your book not from Amazon today!
This really captures the frustration many authors feel about Amazon's dominance in book retail. The breakdown of who gets what from each purchase point is eye-opening - especially seeing how much more goes to the author when buying directly. What's particularly troubling is how Amazon has become almost unavoidable for discoverability, even though the economics are so unfavorable to creators. It's a classic platform power problem where convienence for readers comes at the expense of sustainable creator income. Thanks for visualizing this so clearly!

This breakdown is incredibly eye-opening! The visual representation really helps understand how much Amazon takes from the equation. What strikes me most is how the 55% discount to Amazon eats into the margins before anyone else even gets paid. It's a stark reminder that convenince comes at a real cost to creators. Your point about buying directly from the publisher or from independent bookstores really resonates - it's not just about supporting authors, but maintaining a diverse and healthy book ecosystem. The math really doesn't lie here. Thank you for laying this out so clearly!
I appreciate your bold statement! My read pile is daunting right now but Iβve put your book on my wish list. Santa is a saint and he does not take a cut as a distributor. π§βπ π
I was mad at Amazon as they drove small retailers of all kinds out of business. Then I worked at Whole Foods for several years as Amazon was taking it over. The way they treat their employees is inexcusable. Iβm planning to boycott the company in all ways (except for the web services that are out of my control) for the rest of my life. They really are Evil Corp.
I am going to have to share this widely, as it says everything I saw but so much better! I freaking hate Amazon.
+1
I wish there was a tip jar at the end of every novel. Authors could make serious bank that way.
βItβs not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and good writer. Charlotte was both.β
*Bawling* Here E.B. White, take all my money.
That would be so great!

You forgot Free Little Libraries! The rest is spot on. You hit a nerve and I'm sharing your post.

This was so eye-opening and helpful. Fuck Amazon! Iβll be buying your book for a friendβs birthday from the publisher.
Incidentally, do you know if the math works out any better for writers if we buy through Bookshop.org?

What about buying from BookShop?
I love bookshop! You can see a little shout-out to them in the last panel!

Congrats on the book!
Thank you! That was a great conversation. I enjoyed it so much!
Do you know how it compares if we purchase from a local independent bookstore so we can support you both at the same time?
I was wondering about this as well!
Genius. This would make an incredible zine to get passed around, traded, or tucked into Little Free Library shelves.
I never buy from Amazon, I always buy direct from the press or the author or from a old fashioned bricks and mortar shop
